Mrs. Camacho's Dog
Mrs. Camacho's Dog explores a young girl's journey of discovery in a foreign country. It's based on my own experiences living in Costa Rica and my friendship with a real life loving little dog named Duque. I sprinkled a few simple Spanish words throughout the book and included a list of translations for my young readers.

I knew I wanted to do the illustrations for the book but I'm no artist. I used actual photographs and a sketch application to transform them into pencil drawings. Here's the "lumpy little sofa" that was Riley's bed in the Costa Rican bungalow. The photo was taken in our own rainforest home before we renovated. Bungalows Las Palmas actually does exist in Quepos and Bungalow 6 was home to myself and my husband Allan for six years.
